The federal, state, local government and education sectors continue to be the most targeted by cyberattacks in the United States.

According to Check Point Research, education and research organizations experience 1,248 per week, on average — the most of any industry. The government and military organizations experience 1,034 per week, fourth among all industries.

Further, government and military organizations have seen higher than average attacks of notable malware types, including Infostealer, mobile, ransomware and botnet.

In the education sector, Check Point research found higher than average attack volumes of Infostealer, ransomware and botnet malwares.

To help combat these threats, Check Point is seeking FedRAMP authorization. Already a number of months into the proceedings, Check Point is targeting some time in 2025 for approval of its SaaS based products, including Harmony Email & Collaboration, Harmony Endpoint and CloudGuard.

To support this effort, Check Point recently brought on public sector veteran Jared A. Vichengrad as Head of Public Sector Sales. Jared comes to Check Point with over 20 years of experience working with public sector organizations in securing their environments. Prior to joining Check Point, he built and transformed Public Sector teams at Semperis, Rubrik, Veritas and Lexmark.

“The Public Sector is critical to our daily lives – ensuring we can access the services we need, when we need them. Threat actors understand how damaging a disruption can be – which is why the public sector remains one of the most targeted industries by cyber attacks, ,” says Vichengrad. “The Public Sector has unique security challenges, and at Check Point we are dedicated to working with public sector organizations to help them prevent cyber attacks, improve their security posture and keep them on their missions.”

Check Point is excited to embark on this journey and deliver innovative, industry-leading solutions for Federal, State and Local Governments, Education and Tribal Nations.
