Jay, can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m passionate about cyber security and I am dedicated to creating a safer digital environment by breaking down complex risks into simple, manageable solutions. I strive to empower individuals and organizations to protect themselves in an increasingly digital world by addressing cyber threats strategically.
Outside of work, I’m a devoted dog lover and spend much of my free time with my furry companions. I deeply empathize with children in distress and support initiatives focused on their well-being, believing in contributing to a kinder, more compassionate world. Family always comes first for me, and I cherish time spent with loved ones.
In my personal time, I enjoy the freedom and adventure of motorcycle riding. To balance this, I play the classical bamboo flute, a practice that helps me reconnect with myself and find peace in a busy life.
What led to your decision to join Check Point?
Making the leap from the comfort of the customer side to the fast-paced vendor world wasn’t easy—but it was the right move. In today’s evolving digital landscape, especially in cyber security, staying ahead means working with organizations driving innovation in cyber defense.
During my 16 years in banking, Check Point stood out as more than just a vendor—they were a trusted partner, always adapting to the changing needs of cyber security. I still remember my early days setting up Nortel Networks Alteon firewalls on Check Point’s platform. Back then, building a firewall cluster felt like solving a complex puzzle—an art form that made me a key resource to my organization (and I loved every minute of it!).
Fast forward to today, and while technology has simplified processes like firewall clustering, those early challenges shaped my perspective and built the foundation for my career. Now, I’m entering this new chapter with renewed passion, ready to help organizations tackle tomorrow’s cyber security challenges.
What is your current role and what does a typical day look like for you?
As the CISO for Asia Pacific & Japan at Check Point, I provide strategic cyber security guidance, drive team collaboration, and foster growth through key partnerships. My responsibilities include:
- Advising C-suite executives on best practices and advanced cyber security solutions.
- Working with sales, marketing, engineering, and customer success teams to ensure seamless delivery.
- Building partnerships to drive growth and deliver value.
My goal is to help organizations navigate today’s evolving cyber landscape with confidence.
A typical day involves monitoring global trends—geopolitical, economic, and cyber risks—to stay ahead of threats. These insights inform client consultations on cyber security frameworks, risk mitigation, and compliance.
I work closely with internal teams to align on delivering effective security solutions and contribute to industry events, sharing insights to advance thought leadership.
Cyber security demands constant adaptability, with shifting priorities to address new challenges. My role focuses on balancing proactive defense with responsive strategies, helping clients secure their digital ecosystems in an increasingly complex world.
What are you most proud of personally and professionally?
Personally, I am most proud of the meaningful relationships I have built with family, friends, and colleagues. These connections have shaped who I am and constantly inspire me to grow and make a positive impact. Whether it’s supporting loved ones during challenging times or celebrating collective successes, these moments of connection bring immense fulfillment.
I take immense pride in making a meaningful impact in the field of cyber security. Knowing that the strategies and solutions I’ve contributed to have actively protected businesses and individuals from digital threats is incredibly fulfilling. Equally important to me is empowering others—I firmly believe in fostering trust and supporting individuals to excel in their roles. It’s deeply rewarding to witness their growth, with many evolving into outstanding leaders who feel like family. Mentoring others and sharing knowledge through engagements has been a privilege, allowing me to give back to the industry and contribute to its ongoing development—an opportunity I genuinely treasure.
How do you stay updated on industry trends?
Keeping up with industry trends is vital in today’s fast-paced world. To stay informed, I prioritize reading reputable sources such as financial, economic, and technology publications, as well as insightful blogs and industry reports. I also actively participate in webinars, networking events, and conferences, which offer valuable perspectives from thought leaders and peers. Engaging in online communities and regulatory forums further enhances my understanding, as professionals share updates, challenges, and innovations. By leveraging these resources, I ensure I remain informed, agile, and prepared to navigate an ever-evolving landscape.
What can we find you doing outside of work?
Outside of work, you’ll often find me riding my motorcycle. As a solo rider, my destination is usually unpredictable—so who knows where you might spot me! I also cherish spending time with my furkids, talking to them as if they were human. While I’m not sure if they understand my words, their emotions make it clear they get me in their own way.
When time allows, I enjoy spontaneous trips with my family. For us, the journey is often more exciting than the destination. I also have a deep passion for classical music and occasionally play the bamboo flute. It’s a practice that keeps me grounded and centered, almost like meditation. I believe playing any wind instrument has that effect. While I’m not a professional flautist, it’s a hobby that brings me immense peace and joy.
