2019 NSS Labs BPS Test: Check Point Leads in Security Effectiveness

By Tal Eisner, Threat Prevention Product Marketing

We are thrilled to announce that Check Point achieved the highest security effectiveness score in the 2019 NSS Labs Breach Prevention Systems (BPS) group test. Check Point’s Next Generation Threat Prevention Appliances and Advanced Endpoint Security achieved a 100% block rate, and earned a “Recommended” rating.

Highlights from the Check Point test include:

BPS Group Test objectives

The NSS Labs Breach Prevention Systems group test represents the first published comparison of technology suites. The testing infrastructure incorporated multiple security solutions for each vendor, replicating a “breach prevention posture” for customers. The combination of technologies enables the tested vendor to demonstrate how effectively it identifies and block attacks in different areas within the cyber kill chain.

In the introduction to its analysis of the BPS Security Value Map, NSS Labs wrote:

“Vendors have been claiming for several years that if you purchase their products as a suite, you will see better results than if you combine best-of-breed products. Enterprises asked NSS Labs if this was true. To find out, we tested and performed an analysis of the claims, the conclusion of which is in this report. The Breach Prevention Systems (BPS) Security Value Map (SVM) is based upon data collected over thousands of hours of testing during NSS’ most recent tests including our Next Generation Firewall (NGFW), Next Generation Intrusion Prevention Systems (NGIPS), Breach Prevention Systems (BPS), and Advanced Endpoint Protection (AEP) Group Tests”

The BPS group test included various attacks involving internet browsers, Java, Adobe Flash, and many others. A proper breach prevention solution should block suspicious URLs, live exploits and malicious files. The purpose of this test was to block all attacks across various vectors, like network and endpoint, using all available security tools. Check Point used its unique, real-time prevention solutions such as Sandblast Network, Sandblast Agent, threat extraction, anti-bot and more.

Check Point’s Approach to Better Threat Prevention

Check Point’s strong performance in this test further underscores its approach to threat prevention, and to its consolidated security architecture, Infinity, which integrates security solutions for network, cloud, mobile, and endpoint. Winning the cyber security battle depends on businesses preventing unknown zero-day threats. This approach for protecting businesses from unknown threats hinges on three core principles:

Intelligence. Prevention. Consolidation.

Check Point’s technology operationalizes threat intelligence and research with Threat Cloud, the world’s most powerful threat intelligence database. Informed by millions of sensors around the globe, the largest team of elite researchers in the industry, and enriched by artificial intelligence.

ThreatCloud powers 64 threat prevention engines for both known and unknown threats used in Check Point’s market-leading network, cloud, endpoint, mobile and IoT security solutions, enabling companies to stay ahead of hackers and consume fewer security team resources.

As new technologies are developed to protect emerging attack vectors, complexity doubles every year.

Check Point Infinity provides a consolidated architecture that blocks sophisticated attacks across all surfaces and vectors and unifies threat prevention management in a single console.

While the complexity of securing enterprise systems from threat actors constantly grows, Check Point continues to invest resources in developing innovative technology that focus on preventing threats.

For Check Point, threat prevention isn’t just a philosophy – it’s a proven, tested and trusted practice!
