Customized Retention Period for Emails with Modified Attachments
Administrators can now customize the retention period for emails whose attachments were removed or modified
Deciding on the amount of time Harmony Email & Collaboration retains emails requires a delicate balance between privacy/compliance needs and security/business needs.
There are several workflows in Harmony Email & Collaboration where if emails are not found to be suspicious, the attachments in the email are either removed or modified:
- Click-Time Protection – rewrites links inside attachments
- Password-protected attachments – Attachments are removed and users can retrieve them by typing in their passwords
- Attachment cleaning – macros, embedded objects and all active content is removed from the attachments before delivering it to the end user
In these workflows, users have the option to retrieve the original email with the original attachment. Since the emails are clean, they will be retained – and therefore available to restore – for a short period of time.
To support cases where it might take users some time before they submit the restore requests, administrators can now define a different retention period for these emails – from 2 days to 180 days – as long as the retention period is larger than or equal to the clean emails retention period.
To do that, go to Config -> Customization -> Retention Settings -> Custom and set the retention period under Emails with Modified Attachments
